APPLYING TO TEAR FOR NON - UK APPLICANTS

INFORMATION for NON-UK applicants who are not eligible to live in the UK:

Tracey Emin Foundation does not provide sponsorship for the Tracey Emin Artist Residency, nor does the residency fall under the student visa category. 

You will need to apply independently for a visa.

GLOBAL TALENT VISA - Exceptional Promise

Exceptional Promise applicants should be at an early stage of a professional career and have a developing track record of working in professional artistic contexts.

You will need to ensure that you have the correct evidence for this BEFORE applying to the Tracey Emin Artist Residency. We will ask how you meet the Global Talent - Exceptional Promise Visa BEFORE being offered an interview, so please ensure you meet this prior to applying.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE VISA:

IN BRIEF:

The visa application is split into two halves:

Stage 1 is an application to the Arts Council for an endorsement. This is a detailed application requiring your evidence for eligibility. It can take up to 8 weeks to be decided.

Stage 2 is the visa application to the Home Office using the Stage 1, Arts Council endorsement. (this can also take up to 8 weeks)

This is a summary of evidence you will need to submit in Stage One: (please refer to Arts Council Website for full details)

 

A CV - this must show details of your full professional artistic career and education (if applicable)

Provide three letters of endorsement as set out below:

·  Two must be from well-established arts and culture organisations that you have worked with, who are acknowledged as experts in the applicant’s field, and at least one of the organisations must be based in the UK; and

· The third must be from another well-established arts and culture organisation or an individual that they have worked with who has recognised experience in the applicant’s field.

Letters of support must be written specifically for the purpose of supporting the Global Talent visa application and must cover all the above points. General reference letters or testimonials, or letters written for any other reason that do not reference the visa application, are not acceptable.

Each recommendation letter must contain the following:

  • must show the organisation logo and registered address, and be dated and signed by the author, who must be a current senior member of the organisation that has the authority to write on behalf of the organisation - an example would be a current member of the senior management team or board, such as the Chief Executive, Artistic Director, Principal or Chair

  • all letters must include full contact details for the author, including personal email address and direct telephone number

  • all organisation letters must provide details of when the organisation was established, and where possible for UK organisations a Companies House registration number

  • all organisation letters must include a link to a detailed and accessible official organisation website

  • Describe their organisation

  • Include their CV/Resume or a detailed history of their professional credentials.

  • Must provide specific details of a past or current artistic working relationship between you and the organisation/s that the letters are from

  • the eminent individual letter for arts and culture applicants must provide specific details of a past or current artistic working relationship between you and this individual

  • Describe your previous artistic credentials

  • all letters must tell us in detail about your past achievements in your specialist area of practice and how, in the opinion of the author, you have the potential to be a leader in your specialist area of practice

  • all letters must provide specific details about how you would benefit from living and working in the UK as an artist cultural practitioner and the contribution you could make to cultural life here as an artist or artistic practitioner – i.e. what networks would you have access to in the UK that you would not have access to in your current country of residence, what specific skills would you share with UK artists and practitioners, groups, networks etc, what types of professional activities would you deliver, how would the sector you work in benefit and grow and how would UK audiences benefit?

    You must provide no more than 10 pieces of evidence in at least two of the following categories.

1.  Media Recognition

Evidence from at least 1 country (which can include your country of residence) of at least 2 examples of recent media recognition for your work as an individual, as a named member of a group or as a contributor.

Examples of media recognition can include reviews or profiles of your work in newspapers and magazines or on television or radio, on international websites or established and prominent arts and culture blogs, or critiques of your work by credible critics. PLEASE NOTE: Interviews, event listings or advertisements that merely publicise your work would not be acceptable because the evidence must provide an evaluation of the quality of your work.

2.  Proof of Awards

Evidence of winning, or significantly contributing to winning, or significantly contributing to being nominated or shortlisted for, or being nominated or shortlisted for, at least 1 international award for excellence. For example, Booker Prize, a Grammy Award, or domestic awards in another country, for example a Tony award.

Arts Council guidance states the following:

Degrees, masters and PHDs, or awards for student projects are not acceptable. Grants or   bursaries are also not acceptable. However, scholarships or fellowships can be acceptable for Exceptional Promise, such as a full scholarship to attend a creative course at a recognised university, conservatoire or art school. A scholarship must be in recognition of your talent.

3. Proof of appearances, performances, publications or exhibitions

Evidence that shows you have received several professional engagements within the last five years of the date of application in one or more countries.

You can submit evidence such as programmes, adverts or posters, listings, screenshots of videos (the full URL must be included), features of your work in publications (for example, poems or other writing being featured in literary magazines) or distribution lists showing the number of countries your work has been sold in. The Arts Council must be able to see evidence of your participation in the activity and the date and country it took place. For Exceptional Promise, UKVI can accept some evidence of appearances in academic programmes of work, alongside evidence of professional appearances, such as an appearance in a graduate showcase. Your evidence can therefore include a mix of professional and academic work.
